Witemeyer had no idea at the time that Schurrer worked for Bethany House as an editor. After arriving early and joining the volunteer team, the author met Karen Schurrer. Witemeyer attended the American Christian Fiction Writers Conference (Dallas). She has attributed her success to an unexpected encounter in 2007. Even though she started writing seriously in 2003, she did not secure a book deal until 2009. Her journey to publishing success was relatively slow. She relies heavily on her faith, trusting God to fill her mind with ideas for stories. Witemeyer did not have the creativity that gave some of her peers the confidence to pursue publishing at a young age. It never occurred to the author that she would eventually transition from reading stories to writing them. She had no interest in journals and diaries. In fact, when she was young, the author only wrote when her school assignments forced her. It took her a while to take an interest in writing. Witemeyer is not one of those authors that started writing at a young age.
